Gixxerthou
Doing a major service on the GSXR at the minute, and when I took off number 1 Cyl Coil Cap, I noticed the inside of the head had a bit of corrosion on it and that the coil caps insulation had spilt down its length. The inside of the coil cap itself has started to go rusty a little, but nothing a dose of AC50 after some 800 grit wouldn't cure. I've priced a new one up today and its £75! For the sake of some insulation. So my question is this... Is there insulation of this type available, and where can you buy it? Or, does anyone know of any fixes for this. I've toyed with the idea of taping it up with insulating tape then recovering with the sleeve, but am a bit concerned about the temperature weaking the glue, or worse. Mr.Pigdog
I found Z1000's and 750's suffer from the coils 'swelling' from corrosion if it hasn't been regularly serviced-had some of them seized in so bad they needed a tyre lever and brute force to remove them.I've got away with just cleaning them up and smearing them with grease to prevent further issues-been doing that since 2004 and seems to solve the problem
