10yr non-runner Fireblade rides the LDU

All change!

Was a VFR now a CBR...

*****

My old CBR900RR hasn't run since it was last ridden in 2014. It's sat unloved ever since.

Soon, it will be dragged out, restored to it's former "glory", thoroughly put through its paces and than ran nearly a thousand miles in a day for Cancer Research UK.

Pray for me.

Also, gimmie all yo' money: https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/garycolley24

No it isn't...

It's now a CBR900RR that wouldn't hold charge and I managed to short and kill the starter Solenoid while messing around.

I then had a nervous breakdown (my first...) planning my wedding and it never got back on the road.

Summary, dont get married.

*****

It's an 80's VFR750F that was shoddily converted for racing in Earlystocks in 2012. It did well and finished every race started. But it was not pretty. There's a thread detailing my first race season somewhere.

It got fancied up a bit for 2014, but shat it's guts of oil after the first race (ropey sump bung thread).

It's sat unloved as an item of scorn ever since.

Life got in the way, but now I'm back on bikes more frequently it's getting ticked back into working fettle for the LDU and if I'm really feeling fancy, I may get a race license again.

My old Fireblade.

MOT ran out May 2014 :getmecoat:

Now runs well, for the moment (fingers crossed)

Needs fronts discs and tyre, wheel off to shop tomorrow.

Was going to be MOTd last week but Brake lights and one indicator weren't working... so wiggling cables and looking at bulbs ready for Friday.

If not, out comes the gaffatape for a daytime MOT

I got offered a running '98 with MOT until July for £500, wish I'd bought it 😅

Daytime MOT won't cut it for a 24 hour event. I'm fairly sure the boss will say no.

It'd have working lights on it by the time of the event.

Besides, there's actually no such thing as a daytime MOT. Just advisory on no lights available to be tested.

I was also mostly joking about the gaffa tape, can't take too much to get brake light and indicator working. Everything else is ready to rock (except front tyre. Day off Thursday for that and tinkering pre-MOT)

You can borrow my Bros if you want.  Needs air in the front tyre, an MOT (clicky headset) and then riding...

Hopefully I won't have to take you up on that, but thank you.

Aye, some more cc's are always good for that silly long ride....

It's got heated grips too... :D  and can hook up with seat packs, tank bags too....

Might have to try and sell it as I am not using right now

I think there's a run designated back up bike, but there's some awfully quiet folk and folk having nightmares on the WhatsApp...

Hoping I get to run the fireblade, not only will the extra cc's make it more manageable, but its got sentimental value and is on my "never sell" list. Hence this is a good kick up the arse to get it pukka.

Got the brake lights, indicators and horn working.

The chain is now mostly kink free and should ease up a little more when riding.

Just front tyre and discs to go!

Insurance kicks in tomorrow ready to ride to MOT Thursday.

I'm keeping everything crossed :topbodge:

Just realised I didn't turn the fuel tap on when I started and ran the bike earlier.

This means that it is always on, not so much of a problem.

But it also means I can't switch to reserve... tailpack fuel can for me then

Took the bike for mot earlier, booked in tomorrow.

The 6 mile ride revealed that the old fireblade is not as comfy as I remember. 1000 miles will hurt.

Also, the clutch is slipping.

Good thing I've got clutch plates and some new bars to go on, fingers crossed nothing pain in the arsey on the MOT. Got everything on shelf if needed, though.

Looks tidy, from a distance.

You're  not alone - Karl is doing the ride on a blade as well. He's currently fishing rust flakes out of the tank...😬

I'll be strategically placing some magnets away from the outlet, hopefully to catch any rust :topbodge:

Just been informed rust isn't magnetic. Bah humbug.

I had a clear visor with pinlock for start and finish, sneakily tucked away in the tank bag. Swapped it at p1 and the ferry.

Otherwise I'd have been fucked for that last section we were doing in the rain. Even with Chinese death ray LEDs.
