Fork Oil?

Simbo

Recommended Posts

looking at doing a fork oil change on my gixxer thou k5,

the manual says L01 fork oil or 2.5w epuivalent. i thought the norm was 5w or 10w, 2.5w sounds a little light.

allso has anyone played about with the air gap/fluid level, standard is 101mm read a few people have taken down alittle 95mm.

any benefits? would i noitice, should i use 5w or stay standard 2.5w ?

only ride on road,

advice appreciated :biggrinvk4:

Wow! That's light.

All my Honda's have had 10W specified & I've gone up 5 or down 5 depending on the bike.

I'm running 5W in my SP1 & 15W in my Varadero.

I reckon the quality of oil is more important than weight so the damping stays predictable. 5W does the job great in my bike.

You can always give it a go & if it doesn't suite. Treat it as a flush & go back to 2.5W

5w will suffice. According to my chart..

The L01 is 15.5 cst @ 40 deg C

Which is very close to what Showa use

(SS-05) which is 15.7 cst

Ohlins #5 light 5w is 15 cst

So with going on and on.. just stick with the 5w oil. :icon_salut:

Rebuilt the forks on a KTM250 EXC , was advised to use Morris Synthetic fork oil ( same grade as standard from KTM ) and SKF low friction seals and the fork action was a lot better than it was new, so go with good quality oil and seals. It costs a few more £`s but I`m a tight git and I think its worth it.

Maxton put 5w oil in My forks after sorting them out, massive difference over stock!
