jaycee
Is nobody remembering that this is a compact engine bay? Although I do like the Scooby idea. Then again, its Adams car, he decides
kaighn80
9 inch grinder and a welder! It'll fit! A friend of mine has an old scoop mini with a twin turbo Granada cosworth v6 in the engine bay, it'll be a better fit than that was.
Kaos Theory
May be throwing a spanner in the works here but isn't the rotary a very light engine, therefore swapping in anything else is going to torpedo the handling (which I understand, is the best point about the RX8) as it'll fuck up the weight distribution? lorenzo
it'll fuck up the weight distribution? Not that much as the engine sits quite far back and the front axle is right at the front.
kaighn80
To be fair it's more to do with the positioning of the engine, it's about 2 foot back from the front, that's why the weight distribution is as good as it is, the v6 is actually quite small, seeing as it's only 3 cylinders long. I've got one in an escort, it's tight but it goes

jaycee
I quite like the Ford 2.5 V6 suggestion. If its compact and light enough, it should be a decent combination of looks, handling, performance and noise
trident_special
What about a nice 5.0 Coyote? http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=11829
Basil
I've said this before, add lightness and a turbo, 1 litre ford 3 pot eco boost with a bigger turbo for about 230 odd bhp, would need some funky transmission mods, bell housing and a mustang gearbox or something like that or scour the autosport classifieds for a formula ford. porter_jamie
having thought about it for a bit, 1.8t out of an audi (n/s) is probably the cheapest for the power, and they are as common as dogshit.

Certain versions of that VAG 1.8T are well tuneable too. With serious power to be had if you dont mind shelling out some cash. I've got the 225bhp variant of the 1.8T in my 02 plate TT; I get an average of 35mpg out of it, which is pretty decent considering. that's on a daily 50-mile round trip commute with some (lots, usually) of stop-start traffic, some motorway (M25 so frequently stop-start traffic) and a mixture of A&B roads. The motor is totally bog-standard BTW, they do respond well to tuning apparently though I've never felt the need TBH - I've got the bike for that
