exuprob
While the R1 is off the road for the Winter, I was wondering if you can set carb balance while the carbs are off the bike or do they have to be fitted, and the bike running to set them up properly? BudgetBoy
You can bench balance them which will get them near but you might still need a carbtune to set them 100%. You can use a bit of say Mig wire and set the throttle plates so they are all the same.
marcaztls
I've done it with a drill bit before and the results have been very close, but you'll never get them as perfect as you can on the bike due to different cylinder vacuums. It's a good starting point though.
lorenzo
Likewise, done it with a small drill bit in the past and it'll get your bike started, but it's never going to be spot on.

ronenige
Usually there is a series of very small holes ( progression jets) very close to where the butterfly sits, if you look at the proximity of the butterfly to these holes you can get very close But it will still be better with the engine running
exuprob
Ah Ok, so it'll be in the ball park but not dead on then. That's close enough, cheers.
