Romski
Help. Trying to weld a cast ally gear lever, cut and shut job, but I cannot get the ally to pool, it just forms a blob and disappears. I am trying to weld the impossible?
Superdunc
Sounds like it has a lot of impurities in it.
Gregorious77
Yup you are trying the impossible. Some works some doesnt. it either works or bubbles up into a big mess or of course if it has magnesium in it it disappears in a puff of smoke!!! Superdunc
Mag alloys weld quite nicely, I expect what Dobbie's trying to weld has a load of zinc or some shite in it.
Romski
Cheers chaps, looks I have been trying to weld the unweldable. Bummer.
kanerdog1x1
What filler were you using? 4043/5% silicon works well with questionable castings. It tends to calm the pool down, in much the same way as adding abit of stainless rod to the start of a nasty steel job.
