2Smoke
I'm rebuilding a DRZ400 for a mate, he got it cheap due to the motor having lunched itself.. It's fairly fresh (2008) but the big end had gone, and the top end had seized. I'm trying to find out why it went, the oil that was remaining in the engine looked clean enough, as to whether it was run low or not I don't know! So the possible culprit is the oil pump, I've stripped it, and it's showing signs of wear but how much wear is acceptable? Is it fecked?
Adam
Definately, it looks like its been pumping swarf for few miles, something else must've gone first though.
chancho196
What does the bore and piston look like? Camshafts etc? Any history with the bike? Regular oil changes are imperative with these, as well as the Loctite mods (sling yer hook over to Thumpertalk and you'll find out anything you want to know about the DRZ). Clean oil in it now could just be a case of the previous owner trying to quieten it down. No, or low, oil pressure should have shown up in other parts of the motor too.
