Radial Brake Swap

Recommended Posts

Hiya

I've got a ZX636 front ent on my Spondon Frame, with ZX10R wheel, Tokico radial calipers spaced to suit the bigger disc..

I know that the ZX10R brakes have a poor reputation. So being as I'm fitting a Turbo'd Blackbird engine...i was thinking about an upgrade.

the question...

if I'm looking at other calipers...i.e Brembo's off an Aprilia for example...as long as they are 100mm centres... is there a standard offset for the discs on all radial calipers?

I'm thinking of using a set of Brembos off something fancy, but don't want to buy without knowing that they'll fit.

cheers

rb

Generally the Italian calipers have a 108mm centres. So make sure you find Brembo's for a Jap bike (Yam/Honda/Kwak/Suzi)

:icon_salut:

And I think the offsets are all different.

I brought a new set of HPK Brembos a couple of years ago for my zx10r.

When I sold it I fitted them to the K6 1000 I brought to replace the 10r.The only thing I had to do was to machine some spacers up and that was it.I also had K4 1000 calipers on the 10r before the Brembo's with no mods.

Best mod on a 10r ever.

I thought Jap bikes were 108mm, Italiains 100mm. Therefore Ducati / Aprillia etc. Brembos won't fit without new fork leg bottoms. And hence why 108mm brembos fetch good money...

Jap bikes are 108mm and italian bikes are 100mm most jap calipers will fit(not to sure on the 2011 brembo gsxr models) and all you have to get is the correct spacers for the disc size which you have fitted.

2 Links to 2 pairs of caliper i have for sale which are 108mm

Yamaha gold/silver spots are a very popular upgrade. There's no difference between the 2 apart from the colour of the spots, it just depends on what colour bike they came off.

I get the centre spacing....

the question was about offset . i.e the position of the disk compared to the mounts

basically if I see a set of 108mm Brembo's...will the caliper/disc offset be the same?

PMP,....love those Yam calipers...will have a last look on the bay and PM you

Have a set of r6 calipers with silver inserts on my track bike which are in the same condition as the one's on ebay, i dont mind selling these if they suit your bike better as ill just use the one's ive got listed on ebay.

The offsets tend to be the same as people doing radial caliper upgrades on most if not all common jap sportsbikes are interchangable and i know you can use R6/fireblade monoblock calipers on zx10r/zx6r but this info should be easy to find on a kawasaki forum somewhere.

108mm brembo calipers are about £700+ new and used one's sell for around £400-500+ depending on the spec of the calipers.
