CRMotard
WARNING: DONT TRY THIS....... NO REALLY....... DONT GET SUCKED IN.... JUST SELL THE BASKET CASE BEFORE YOU GO MENTAL LIKE I HAVE!!!! Iv been holding off on posting up this build, mainly due to my numerous drawn out build threads of past and present. Now that the bike is getting a little closer to completion i thought that Id post her up. Aim: Take 1 stock CRM250AR basket case. Step 1: completely tear the bike down to the ground Step 3: realise the engine is rooted Step 4: tell honda to get F*cked for wanted a thousand bucks for a new crank even tho you just need a main bearing and rod. after this point, the methodical steps finished, I just ditched the rebuild plan and decided to go wild. I sold everything on the bike that I didnt need, this scored me nearly what I payed for the bike, then proceeded to spend more than I care to mention on some trick bits including: Chassis- Motard rims sourced from a 125cc racebike 320mm EBC prolite disc Aprilia RSV1000 caliper Marzochi adjustable forks set up for motarding braided brake lines BT003 tyres protaper bars brembo master cylinders new bearings and bushes and seals throughout
CRMotard
Engine -ditched the primative AR cylinder -replacing with a 2005 CR250 cylinder that has been over bored 1mm and replated -YZ490 aftermarket rod (longer and stronger) with silver plated bearings -vforce reed block -PWK39 carb with TPS -Billet intake manifold -KTM250SX flat top piston (+2mm) -CR250 2005 OEM pipe -Programable Ignitech ignition -modified flywheel and pickups -custom rewired (my first attempt at electrics, Im pretty proud )
CRMotard
Aesthetics -sandblasted, zinc dipped and powdercoated frame -Custom Graphics kit being developed in the UK -new matching silicone hoses throughout -cleaned and paited radiators -lots of shiny new OEM covers, springs, bolts, etc -YZ250 number plate and motard front fender, new OEM rear fender Things to do now.. -finish of the electrics -finish off and install the cylinder which has been modified by two stroke institute -sort out a rear shock (rebuild OEM shock or adapt one of my spare shocks) -get the rear calliper to line up with disc -then its time to add the coolant and fuel to fire her up where shes at right now... Hope to have her running in a months time the goal is 45hp... which is nearly double what the std CRM had. Oh and a big thanks to Two stroke institute for the help on this build, although Iv wanted to do as much as possible on this bike myself, there have been numerous things Iv needed his talents for on this bike and others. CRMotard
That looks spot on chap, how hard was the barrel swap? I've often thought of a CRM motard. barell isnt too bad... offset the rear studs a couple mm... and trim the OD of the sleave a couple mm so that it fits in the cases... the hard part was everything else. 2T Institue
Now shes getting a Maxton shock fitted, from an RS125er that I had laying about... and I know its a match made in heaven because the shock spring is 'CRM purple' haha Not really heaven, would need the solid bar removed and replaced with a hose as it sits at the wrong angle, other than that it'might' work out. I'll chat with the suspension bloke.
CRMotard
cheers mate... if its going to be easier, can always just get to stocker rebuilt... otherwise if the cylinder is in the wrong spot it sounds like another reason to ditch the OEM airbox and Ill make one from thermoplastic... CRM
wicked build. i will say though my first 99 AR made 39 standard, and 40 with mugen CDI and DEP system but pulled better all the way through. I would expect to see more than 45 from yours all being well. whats the CDI from ? was that made to suit the AR loom or are you going to run a simpler Mk2/3 setup and electrical system ? CRMotard
wicked build. i will say though my first 99 AR made 39 standard, and 40 with mugen CDI and DEP system no offense, but a CRM will make that much power when pigs fly... thats how much a late model yz/cr 250 makes at the rear wheel
CRMotard
I would expect to see more than 45 from yours all being well. whats the CDI from ? was that made to suit the AR loom or are you going to run a simpler Mk2/3 setup and electrical system ? any more than mid 40's and I would be kidding myself, its just not possible... there is a big difference between what honda claims in its brochures and what bikes actually produce at the engine/wheel... CDI, is a fully programmable race ignition from ignitech
CRMotard
Finally sold my zx12r after 9 nightmare-ish months of restoration... so I went on a shopping spree to get all the parts that I need to finish the bike off I was suprised tho, I couldnt find much stuff that I needed/wanted to buy... that must mean that shes almost finished haha RM250 OEM ingnition pickup (twin wire for the race ignition) Large K&N pod filter (ill build a semi enclosed airbox around it later) CRF450 rear master cylinder (built in reservoir!) CR250 2007 stock OEM head (the Phathead racing head isnt going to work on my bike)

CRMotard
Thanks, yeah I was trying to go for the OEM look when they were being designed up... sort of what I thought Honda should have put on the CRM originally... perhaps though, its not a classy as the 'skulls and flames' the 'the dice and guns' or the 'Ed Hardy' decal kits available online...
