szrdave
Following my other 'flat battery' thread, a new battery arrived and I charged and fitted it. The bike fired up straight away and I rode down to a friends in Worthing last night. A few minutes after arriving I went to go to the shops, and the bike just span over freely when I pressed the starter. Aprilias do have a reputation for destroying the sprag clutch, but I haven't heard any of the associated grinding noises, it just went from working perfectly to knackered from one start to the next. So any tips on how to get it to engage? Maybe a 'gentle tap' with my boot?
thefatman
Maybe pop the bike in gear and push it over, either forwards or backwards, might help.
szrdave
I gave that a go last night, no joy unfortunately. I'll try and bump it later if I have to, but it's not easy with a big twin!
millerich
IIRC they can lose their starter solenoid as well as the sprag clutch issue. I'd start looking there I think.
rsv69
It's a common fault. Damage usually caused by battery not being fully charged from what I've read. Don't know if you use an Optimate, but it'd be worth investing in one. They're considered essential on large V-twins due to the power required to crank the engine over.
