Harvey Mushman
My NC30 has been sat for at least 2 years with a tank full of fuel so I'm expecting the carbs to be in a bad way. I'm not confident enough to strip them nor do I have an appropriate place to do so but would be happy to remove them from the bike to send for ultrasonic cleaning. Anyone had there carbs cleaned using this method? Did it work well and can the carbs be left whole instead of stripping them down? My understanding of ultrasonic cleaning is it works wherever it comes into contact with the liquid it is submerged into so presumably that would work well on carburetors as once submerged into the cleaning liquid it would totally flood them egtting into every crevice. JRS seem to specialise in carb cleaning but are not cheap and I've found alternatives. Who did you uise and what should I expect to pay for my NC30 carbs to be cleaned? Harvey Mushman
Foo's had it done on the R1, think it went well. Now you mention it, I think I suggested a place to have it done when he brought it up a little while back. Is it just me who struggles to find threads using the search facilities on here or are they just shite?
Tomfoolery
It's shite I've found using the advanced search and selecting 'most relevant' helps.
Evilchicken0
I bought a second set of carbs for the Bimota recently and they really needed to be cleaned. The jets were blocked and there was a stale dried petrol smell to them. I got a James Ultrasonic 2000 cleaner from Maplins in a sale with some cleaning fluid (ou add the fulid to warm water). I took them apart and put the jets in ... I didn't really expect it to work but it did. So I used it to do all the small bits and it made a really good job of them. Two of the valves were stuckin their housings, bung them in the cleaner and they came out ... clean I'd recomend it. You can if you more flush get a 2.5litre one for 250 delivered which could take a bank of carbs if it's the right shape.
fran9r
I'd not touch ultrasonic myself. There is nothing in can do that you can't with carb cleaner and an air line...although the carbs will look (slightly) better. If your methodical, clean and lay parts out, it's not hard -specially with 3 others to check for reference. Otherwise, get someone to do it properly. All the untrasonic ads I've seen have made it clear thats all they do, not get involved with cervix-ing and checking stuff.
